Touchpoints: Exploring Texture in Art is on view in the Watauga Arts Council’s Main Gallery from October 6 through December 14, bringing together artists and various mediums that explore the role texture plays in how we see and experience art.
Featuring fiber art, painting, mixed media, and more, Touchpoints invites visitors to look more closely at the surfaces, layers, materials, and details that give each work its unique character. This exhibit celebrates the many ways artists use texture to create depth, movement, and meaning.
Please join us for a celebration of this exhibit at the reception, happening on October 15th from 5:30-7:30 pm at WAC (377 Shadowline Dr, Boone, NC)! Meet the artists, mingle with other art lovers, enjoy light refreshments, and experience the exhibition for yourself.

Mountains Waking, Phoenix Rising by Nysie Hurst
Mountains Waking, Phoenix Rising is a journey through illness, adaptation, and renewal. Rooted in artist Nysie Hurst’s experience living with Multiple Sclerosis and inspired by the changing light of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the exhibition explores themes of creativity, hope, and resilience. Through layered acrylics, watercolor, expressive marks, and abstraction, Hurst captures the emotional imprint of the landscape and the possibility of beginning again.
About the Exhibit
Nysie Hurst is a North Carolina-based artist working in acrylic, mixed media, watercolor, and digital mandalas. Inspired by color, light, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, her work has appeared in solo and juried exhibitions throughout the region and is held in private collections across the United States, Japan, and Europe. Her paintings have also been featured in the North Carolina Literary Review, and she teaches art classes centered on creative exploration and mindfulness.
