Linda Elksnin

Linda earned a fine arts degree as an undergraduate before spending many years working as an academic in an unrelated field. As both a researcher and mixed-media artist, her work is informed by a wide range of influences. She is a dedicated student of folk, outsider, and visionary artists, whose work continues to inspire her and with whom she feels a deep connection.

Her practice incorporates symbols, shapes, and subject matter drawn from diverse cultures. Many of her paintings evoke the look and texture of fabric, reflecting her interest in global textile traditions. She draws particular inspiration from African weavers, the quilters of Gee’s Bend, Huichol visionary yarn painters, and Kuna cut-fabric artists.

She works across a variety of traditional media, including watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oil pastels, and colored pencil, while also incorporating nontraditional materials such as house paint, markers, white-out, fabric, and found objects to create her pieces.
