Lauren Borer
Lauren Borer is a fine art photographer and multimedia artist currently based in Boone, NC. Having lived abroad and being trilingual, she has drawn on her experiences to shape her artistic concepts, exploring the challenges of descriptive language and how words shape our visual, verbal, and tangible realities.
She has a deep-rooted appreciation for natural phenomena and ontology- the branch of metaphysics dealing with the nature of being- working through a contemplative, existentialist perspective. Her photographic work spans many categories but centers on a blend of fine art and documentary, with experimental compositions. Lauren is pursuing her Bachelor's degree in Fine Art Photography at Appalachian State University and plans to return to Lausanne, Switzerland, after graduating to pursue her Master's in Fine Arts.

“My images are made through a traditional approach to photography emphasizing the essential facets of composition like light, perspective, and subject. By using photography to examine different environments that simultaneously feel chaotic and peaceful, and by observing people in moments that feel ordinary, tragic, or new, I aim to reach a deeper level of empathy for strangers. In our ever-expanding digital world, it is easy to forget the importance of archiving our small histories. Simplifying our complex three-dimensional lives into smaller, tangible, analog fragments becomes, in itself, an act of artistic collaboration.”
