Alex J. Dimas
Alex J Dimas was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. Her work as a freelance photographer is rooted in the art of storytelling. It reflects a commitment to exploring visual narratives that resonate across cultures and experiences. Being a 1st generation Latina raised by Salvadoran parents, she knew that she had to be open to perspective, and create portraits that not only capture a subject's face, but also their essence–their histories, emotions, and lived experiences.
Through her lens, Alex invites viewers to pause, reflect, and consider the universality of each other's stories.
Influenced deeply by the storytelling traditions of Humans of New York and the immersive, travel-driven perspectives of National Geographic, her practice occupies a space between photojournalism, documentary, and art. It is not about staging perspective, but rather revealing authenticity. With each portrait, she believes that photography can be a bridge. A bridge between people, cultures, the visible and the unseen. To ultimately seek perspective and be a platform that illuminates the quiet power of human connection–one story at a time.
Ella Es Peru
by Alex J. Dimas
“Ella Es Peru is a portrait I took during my trip to Peru, before I went to Machu Picchu. One stop was in a small city located outside of Cuzco, where I encountered this woman vending her hand-loomed textile pieces. The picture itself is printed on luster, low gloss and framed in a wooden frame, hung by a textile piece itself with ring hooks.”
