The Art of Jazz: An Art Exhibit & Experience

The Watauga Arts Council invites the community to celebrate creativity, music, and connection this June through a new gallery exhibit, a jazz-inspired First Friday art-making event, and a special public reception at the App Theatre.

The Art of Jazz: An Artistic Response

Now on view in WAC’s main gallery from May 5 through June 30, The Art of Jazz: An Artistic Response brings together the work of seven local artists exploring the many meanings and moods of jazz through visual art. Featuring eleven original works, the exhibit reflects on jazz not only as a musical genre, but also as a source of movement, emotion, improvisation, and cultural expression.

Inspired by the question, “What does jazz mean to you?”, each artist offers a personal interpretation shaped by their own experiences, influences, and creative voice. The resulting collection highlights the versatility and energy of jazz while inviting viewers of all ages and backgrounds to engage with the artwork in their own way.

Jazz-Inspired Art Making at First Friday

As part of the June First Friday Art Crawl, WAC will host a special drop-in art-making event at Betty’s Biscuits on June 5 from 5-8 pm. All are invited to stop by for an evening of relaxed, jazz-inspired creativity designed for all skill levels.

The event will also feature a cash bar, information about the upcoming High Country Jazz Festival, and opportunities to learn more about WAC’s current exhibit and upcoming Jazz Exhibit reception.

Reception at the App Theatre

WAC will also host a special public reception for The Art of Jazz on June 11 from 5-7 pm at the App Theatre. Guests will have the opportunity to meet participating artists, experience the exhibition in a shared community setting, and enjoy a cash bar during the evening.

The reception is free and open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend in support of local artists and the continuing connection between visual art and music in the High Country.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the App Theatre for hosting this reception. It’s deeply appreciated when our local community comes together to support the arts.
