Downtown Boone will come alive on Friday, August 7th, as First Friday Art Crawl returns with an evening of art, music, and community. Coordinated by the Watauga Arts Council (WAC) in partnership with the Downtown Boone Development Association, First Friday highlights a range of creative experiences happening throughout town.
Residents and visitors can explore local art, connect with artists, experience live music, and attend special events across multiple locations. Highlights for August include:
Rhodo Clay & Kiln Pop-Up at Future Relics (4-7 p.m.) - Stop by Future Relics (above Ellison) for a pop-up market with art from Rhodo Clay & Kiln. Plus, enjoy tasty refreshments provided by the Future Relics crew.
Local Artists & Youth Makers on King St (4-8 p.m.) - Registered First Friday Art Crawl artists will be set up along King Street selling their handmade wares. Additionally, young creatives from the Watauga Arts Council’s Youth Makers program will be selling their work along the Turchin Center sidewalks.
First Friday Festivities at The Turchin Center (5-8 p.m.) - Stop by the Turchin Center to view their most recent contemporary art exhibitions while meeting local creatives. As always, the Turchin offers free admission.
Art Market, Live Music, & Open Mic Night at Fizz Ed (5-10 p.m.) - Fizz Ed will be busy hosting Art Crawl festivities all night long. From 5-8 p.m., enjoy an indoor art market comprised of several local creatives, experience live music from Andy Page from 5-7 p.m., and stay for Open Mic Night from 7-10 p.m.
Art of Educators Show Opening at Nth Degree Gallery (6 p.m.) - Nth Degree Gallery (683 W King St, located above Off the Rack) invites the community to join them for the opening reception of their most recent exhibit, displaying work from local creatives who teach the arts. This event does not have a definitive end time and is BYOB.
Live Music with Hmm, Kendrick and The Great Dane Band at Boone Saloon (9:30 p.m. - 1 a.m.) - Enjoy late-night performances at Boone Saloon. $5 cash cover at the door.
DJ Disco Night at Wild Craft Eatery (9 p.m. - Midnight) - Stop by Wild Craft Eatery starting at 9 p.m. for a night of tunes and dancing with DJ Dumpsta J. $5 cover.
Summer Concert Series at The Jones House (5:30 p.m.) - The Wilder Flower and The Foreign Landers will be taking the Jones House stage starting at 5:30 on Friday. Bring a blanket or chair and relax while enjoying this free concert. While you’re there, stop inside to see the most recent exhibit from artists Alan Gordon and Jennifer Murphy.
Live Music at SouthEnd Brewing (6-9 p.m.) - Mason Jar Confessions featuring Dawn Nichols & Joel Nelson will be performing on the SouthEnd Patio Stage starting at 6 pm. Stop in for a drink and stay for the live music!
School of Rock Showing at Appalachian Theatre (6-8 p.m.) - App Theatre presents their FREE First Friday Flick! Sponsored by Allen Wealth Management. While free, tickets are required. Live Music and 12th Birthday Celebration at Lost Province Brewing (6-9 p.m.) - Enjoy live music from the Tin Can Alley band at Lost Province while celebrating the business’ 12th birthday!
