Jillian Seversky: Todo Cuenta en El Washer

April 2024

Jillian Mae Seversky, a senior at Appalachian State University majoring in Art Education and Studio Art, is showcasing their ceramic work at the Watauga Arts Council from now until April 18th. The exhibition, titled Todo Cuenta en El Washer ("Everything Counts in the Washer"), highlights Jillian's unique approach to ceramics.

Drawing inspiration from renowned artists like Genesis Belanger and Tom K. Doyle, Jillian’s work merges traditional Mexican clay techniques, such as the use of dark red clay, majolica, vivid colors, and narrative decoration, with contemporary objects and personal meaning. As a Queer ceramic artist, Jillian brings their own experiences into their work, creating pieces that are rich in both cultural and personal significance.
