Threads of Mountain Light II
by Theresa Redmond
“I created "Threads of Mountain Light" by combining one-of-a-kind hand-pulled gelli plate prints with botanicals from my garden and stencils digitized from my sketchbooks. I layered these original papers with upcycled book pages that I made with washes of acrylic paint. My approach to mixed media collage is akin to quilting as I focus heavily on piecing and layering. After creating the background, I used an image transfer technique to overlay a photo that I took of the Henson barn (formerly located at 134 Deerfield Road in Boone, NC) before it was demolished. To bring the photo together with the quilted background, I added touches of acrylic paint alongside hand-drawn stitching with paint marker. The piece is finished with cold wax.”
