Susan Payne

A native of Suffolk, Virginia, Susan Payne’s career spans teaching art in various places: Virginia Beach, Charlotte, and at Old Dominion University.

She now resides in Boone, NC, where she embraces the arts, focusing on painting, quilting, and playing with local “Banjo Buddies.” Preferring to paint “plein air,” Susan’s work often captures the changing landscapes and mountain towns surrounding Boone, Blowing Rock, and the High Country.

Her art has been showcased at venues like The Jones House, BRAHM, and the Watauga Arts Council, while residencies at Wildacres and as an Edgewood Resident Artist in Blowing Rock have further enriched her practice.
