Join Us to Learn More About Public Art in Practice!
You’re invited to the upcoming Art Talk!
Watauga Truss Project will preserve and transform a 100-year-old steel truss—once used to power Boone and Appalachian State University—into a monumental work of public art that serves as a cultural gateway, symbol of resilience, and anchor for the Middle Fork Greenway.
You Are Invited!
Come join an amazing conversation about the pending Watauga Truss Project, Watauga County’s largest public art installation to date. Renowned artist Dewitt Godfrey, who is spearheading this installation alongside the Watauga Arts Council’s Art in the Outdoors initiative, will be discussing public art in practice at the Great Room in the McKinney Alumni Center from 1:30-3:30 P.M. on Friday, Feb. 27. All are welcome, and no registration is required.
Goals for the Project
The Watauga Truss Project’s goals are to create an opportunity for students and faculty to engage in a community project, to pay tribute to the resilience of Watauga residents and our land, and to preserve honor and the regional history of our cultural community. Once installed, the Watauga Truss Public Art installation will activate the Boone Gorge Park as a destination for cultural tourism, fostering and fueling both healing and unity after Hurricane Helene.
The Watauga Truss Project will create a lasting legacy reflecting the spirit, strength, and creativity of the High Country. Join the conversation on Friday, February 27 to learn more.
