About the Artist:
Alysa Cantor is a ceramic artist who believes deeply in the transformative power of the arts for healing and connection. She graduated with a BA in English from Boston University and an MA in Expressive Arts Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University. After a varied background, including editing, art therapy, and management, she now primarily works with the grounding medium of clay to create elegant and whimsical pottery, often large stoneware vessels such as vases, urns, and centerpiece bowls. She continually experiments with found objects, layered glazes, decals, lusters, and new forms. Alysa is particularly fascinated by the unpredictability of alternative firing, and sees it as a unique collaboration between herself and the elements. Each of the pieces is subject to the forces at play in the moment; however, they can endure forever.
She has also recently experimented with cyanotypes and printmaking, utilizing botanicals and objects from the High Country landscape that she now calls home.
