Megan is a trained painter who loves working with acrylics and watercolors, as well as found objects, fabrics, old jewelry, clay, embroidery, color pencils, and anything tactile.
About this piece:
This mixed media piece contains a recycled French horn, paint, marker, upcycled vintage fabrics
collected from family, friends, and local thrift stores, as well as donated jingle bells. This piece was
created in response to the end of a cycle of abuse. I finalized the divorce from my abusive partner one
day before the United States when into quarantine. The pandemic has been a season of restoration and
rooting into a place full of peace and harmony. The dark twisting nature of the horn speaks to the chaos
of domestic violence. The velvet mountains encapsulated in sunrise speak to the hope you feel from a
community that looks after you in your darkest moments. The streams of light and colored fabric
symbolize the piecing back together of a vibrant life. Speak is scrawled across the inside of the horn’s
opening and tiny bells adorn the strips of fabric to represent all the people that spoke up for me when I
couldn’t. Creating this piece helped me take ownership over my story and all artist proceeds from this
piece will be donated to Oasis the local center for intimate partner violence.
**Reminder: You are purchasing a vote, not the instrument.
