Regional Artist Project Grant Winners Announced
Receiving grants this year are Teresa Cerda, visual artist, to purchase materials and supplies for a painting project relating to a poetry book; James Collins, visual artist, to attend woodturning class at John C. Campbell Folk School; Phil Morrison, visual artist, to purchase woodworking equipment to create primitive furniture; Collie Riddle, visual artist, to purchase wide angle camera lens and photography equipment to enhance work on new book; John Scarlatta, visual artist, to purchase materials to complete a 35 year retrospective photography exhibit; Bryan Smith, visual artist, to purchase supplies to market his historical portraits; Holly Soukup, visual artist, to purchase framing materials, arts supplies and marketing fees. A reception for the recipients was held at the Jones House in Boone, NC on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. A multi-disciplinary panel from the four county region judged applications in visual arts, music, film and literature. Seven grants were awarded totaling $ 6,162.00. This grant is partially funded by the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency, in partnership with the Arts Councils of Alleghany, Ashe, Watauga, and Wilkes Counties.
