PROJECT SUMMARY
The Watauga Historical Society in partnership with the Watauga County Arts Council is issuing a “Request for Book Cover Design” for a book featuring the architectural history of Watauga County. The book consists of a wide selection of photographs of Watauga County structures complemented by narratives written by J. Daniel Pezzoni, noted architectural historian and preservation consultant, writer, and editor of many similar publications. The selected design will also be exhibited in several area venues both prior to, and after, publication. Expected publication date for the book is the spring of 2009.

There will one Honorable Mention award.
(All of the above winners will also receive a copy of the book.)
TIMELINE
September 30, 2007: Submissions must be received by the Watauga County Arts Council at their offices located in the Jones House Community Center, 604 West King Street, Boone, NC 28607.
October 2007: Review Panel meets to review materials and choose finalists.
November 5-16, 2007: Display of entries at Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff.
November 10, 2007: Reception honoring all entries and announcing the winners at Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff.
April 2009: Book-Signing and formal release of published book to be held at the Watauga County Arts Council’s offices and galleries, located in the Jones House Community Center in downtown Boone.
ELIGIBILIBILITY
This opportunity is open to all artists, regardless of place of residency, age, race, color, religion, national origin, gender, or handicapped status.

ACCEPTABLE MEDIUMS
Any two-dimensional medium is accepted for consideration including, but not limited to, paintings, drawings and sketches, and photographs. Submissions must be presented in a “hangable format” since all submitted designs will be displayed in an exhibition at Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff in Boone, North Carolina in November , 2007.
SELECTION PROCESS
The Review Panel will evaluate artists’ submissions and will select the final design. Submission designs represent the architecture of Watauga County. The winning design becomes the property of the Watauga Historical Society and may be used for all promotional purposes. The Watauga Historical Society reserves the right to use, or not to use, the winning image on the book’s cover. All entries may be included in the book.
