Makers Studio is a class for creators 17 and under. Our goal is to foster craftsmanship and entrepreneurship in partnership with our local farmers market. Creators can make handmade products to sell at the Boone Farmers Market Kids Corner. Limited supplies are provided. Creators are encouraged to bring their own supplies.
August 8th - 12th
During this half-day camp, John Bond teaches foundational principles of art through fun activities. John uses activities to guide the students to more advanced techniques as they are ready. John provides inspiration and materials!
12 pm - 2 pm
We must have a minimum of 4 kids for the camp to "make". Decision will be made on Friday, August 5, 2022 by 3pm.
August 8th - 12th
During this half-day camp, teens get personalized instruction and fun activities to challenge them to reach new personal goals in a group setting. John Bond works with each student to help them determine their goals and how they would like to be challenged. The students pick the materials they want to learn. John provides most materials they will need.
This camp will run at the same time as the youth camp but with different focus.
John is experiences in individual instruction in a group setting.
Ages 6-12
Wednesdays 4-5:00pm
A survey of art materials. Students will bring home three projects on average with one being an acrylic on canvas as well as other mediums such as water colors, pastels, charcoals, color pencils, and multi media work.
Ages 11-18
Thursdays 4-5:30pm
Each student works individually on their own art work. The medium and the direction will be discussed between John and the student in order to take advantage of their strengths while improving upon their weaknesses in an appropriate medium.
Thursdays, 10am-12pm
3 Weeks
Fine Art: John Bond teaches students anything from foundational principles to more advanced techniques based on their experience, personal skill level, goals, and the medium they desire to learn. John works with each student to ensure they are challenged as an individual. Adults are encouraged to take all 5 classes consecutively but we offer flexibility to redeem classes as they can. If you do not use your classes within 7 weeks of purchase, you lose them.
If students aren't sure what medium they want to try, they can have a consultation with John to determine which medium with which to start.
Students purchase a block of 3 classes and redeem them as they can. We ask that classes be used within 5 weeks, but we are flexible. John keeps track of attendance and alerts the student when its time to purchase another block.
Please note, for adult classes, students must bring their own supplies. Students can bring any supplies they would like.
Tuesdays 10:30am-12:00pm
This craft-focused workshop is perfect for knitters who want focused time to improve on their own projects and who would benefit from assistance to reach their knitting goals! Each of these workshops will be led by Vicki Skywark, and will take place each Tuesday.
Students purchase a block of 5 classes and redeem them as they can. Vicki keeps track of attendance and alerts the student when its time to purchase another block. Students are encouraged to use the classes consecutively, but they may take breaks.
Mondays, 1pm - 3pm
The Zen Buddist monks introduced the Northern Sung style of painting to Japan during the Muromachi period in the 14th century. During the Shogunate era, the Southern Sung style flourished. You will learn the basic strokes of traditional Japanese Sumi-e painting, bamboo, orchid, plum blossom as well as Bonsai tree, flowers, and birds. We will also paint the royal flower of Japan, the chrysanthemum.
The class will be taught by Susan Wilders who recently retired after 17 years as Artist in Residence from the Morikami Museum in Delray Beach, Florida.
Students purchase a block of 3 classes and redeem them as they can. The instructor keeps track of attendance and alerts the student when it's time to purchase another block. Students are encouraged to use the classes consecutively, but they may take breaks.
Supplies will be provided for the first 3 classes. If the student wishes to continue beyond the three courses, Sue will provide a supply list for personal purchase.
Spanish Speaking Art Classes: If you speak Spanish and love to teach art, we need you. We would love to open our doors to more minorities. Breaking down the language barrier can be a key step to making this happen.
Trauma-Sensitive Classes/art groups: We understand that Art can be a powerful tool for helping someone who had overcome traumatic experiences. If you have experience teaching classes with this special focus in mind, please reach out. |
We are looking for more Art Instructors for...
General Art Classes or Workshops: If you are interested in teaching classes or workshops of any kind, please look at your schedule, consider which format is best for you, and your target age demographic and fill out our form! Teen/Youth programming: We would love to form a youth art community group. This group would get to explore all the facets of the art world here in Watauga County and beyond. We might have them tackle a mural project as well. We are seeking people who would like to help provide art experiences to this age group. We could do workshops or artist talks, demonstrations, backstage invites to shows, etc. Special Needs Art Classes: We are currently considering offering some art classes for people with autism or other disabilities, it takes a special kind of teacher to be able to handle this type of class. If you have experience and a heart to serve people with autism or other exceptionalities, please reaching out. |
